1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 tablespoons onion, finely chopped
1 ounce taco seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup water
12 taco shells or warm tortillas
1/2 small iceberg lettuce, shredded
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
2 cups marble cheese, shredded
1 cup sour cream, optional
1 cup salsa, optional

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of the chopped onions, sauté until soft. Add ground beef and fry until brown and crumbly (uncovered) for 10 minutes. Add taco seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper and water, stir well. Reduce heat to low and cook covered 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve immediately.


To prepare tacos: Spoon meat mixture into taco shell or tortilla, top with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, sour cream and salsa.
